I am not a “pilot”, but have managed to successfully fly the Cessna 152, a King Air, and a Hercules C-130 (officially never happened
) over the English Channel, and was at the time of my retirement from the Army, quite capable and proficient in flying the UH-1. What I would like to be able to see in here is your story, with photographs, about your aircraft (if you own one, or get to fly one). What drew you to aviation, what drew you to “your” aircraft? I was in Kansas a long time ago, and on the edge of this town I was in (no can’t remember), I virtually stumbled on a sod strip. Checking it out, I found several old aircraft sitting under some “hangars” that appeared to be something out of a flea market setting. As I walked down the row of dust covered airplanes, there sat a Twin Beech “Kansas” with the plexiglass nose
. I would have given my eye teeth to have had a camera with me, and then being on a budget, I couldn’t afford a disposable from K-Mart
. As I stood there looking at the old Kansas, I could only imagine what it would be like to sit in the cockpit of an old plane like that, and fire those radials up, the way they belch smoke and roar to life, taxi out, run up, and take off. The same way I used to think about being able to do the same thing in the B-25. Yeah, like that’s ever gonna happen. I found out from the “FBO” that the Kansas belonged to Kermit Weeks, it was stored there. I am thoroughly enjoying reading about the restoration of N5865V the PBJ that Dan Newcomb has been keeping us updated on, and would like to read about your adventure, with, or about, “Your” airplane.
