D.H. Hornet. In my most humble opinion one of the best lookin' airplanes ever built!! Now sadly extinct , but there is a group in the UK trying to rebuild one.

Well according to my book I have it was the first aircraft to be built with a wood-bonded-to-metal construction.(which was made possible with a new adhesive called Redux) First flown in july 28th 44, thirteen months after concept! The wing was of laminar flow design and comprised of a composite wood and metal internal structure with a stressed birtch-ply double upper skin and an under surface of reinforced Alclad.
Top speed was 472mph :!: 211 built. The Sea Hornet only had top speed of 430mph and only 198 were built.

Hornet truly was a beauty! Thanks LWF for the link..quite substantial components,
molds and drawings remain. Amazing project!
