After seeing the model of the USS Arizona and the real thing, USS Texas, I'm reminded of an 8 X 10 photo I have of the USS New York going through the Panama Canal back in the 20s. On one of the masts, it has what at first glance looks like a clock with one hand. Then I realized it only had ten digits. What was it used for? My guess it was used for maybe a range indicator for the gunners?
