Capt Frank L. Gaunt 8 kills flying P-40M #128 "The Twerp II" of New Georgia 1943. When the 44th FS transitioned to P-38Hs #128 went to the RNZAF

Question... I Know tons of different airplanes had those white stripes like on this plane, but what did they signify?

They were markings for ID purposes. 13th AF P-40s and RNZAF used the these. 49th FG 5th AF used white and the wing leading edge and tail.
