Museums, organizations, and individuals with L-birds

Tue Mar 25, 2008 8:31 am

As an events coordinator and webmaster for the Alamo Liaison Squadron, I'd like to put together a listing of museums, organizations, or individuals who display, restore, or hanger/maintain L-birds. Sort of an L-bird central. Would anyone with such information post here or send me an email at ryanATdoolittleraid.com (replace AT with @).

We have an L-3 and an L-5 on display in our main hangar. The L-3 is flyable. The L-5 is hanging from the ceiling (someone told me that it has a bad wing spar, but that's an unsubstantiated rumour).

Fly on, little birds. . .

so are piper cubs and L-birds the samething? If so i know of a Piper cub or L-bird that is in a Hanger and its been for sale for quite a longtime in Nashua NH. Its in the back of Keyson Airways second hanger. All the way in the back Im sure from what i remember to that the data plate said 44 on it. Its was completely re-fabricated by one of the lead mechanics who also has his IA. Id figure i just throw that out there.

L-birds are liaison aircraft that were used as artillery spotters, air ambulances, etc. There were Piper L-birds, Stinson L-birds, Aeronca L-birds, and others. Here's some more info courtesy of Wikipedia:
