Well, you can come out to Austin Acres and take all the pictures of the first one you posted that you wish. :-)

Miss Hap is truly a Rare B-25, the 4th production model of "the" B-25, I believe, if memory serves me right that the B-25A model came at the 10th production model of the the B-25 type aircraft. I am sure if I am wrong that this will be pointed out. 8)

As I recall, there was a big thrash to get the gear swing accomplished when I took that photo of A24-387, with many extra bodies wanting to know when it would be finished. I think I shot this picture on Thursday. It was kind of funny to watch, actually.

I enjoyed seeing the D-B Spitfire. If I recall correctly, didn't Douglas Bader pass away around that time? I remember reading in my CAF Dispatch(still around here somewhere) back about that time, of his visiting AIRSHO, and seeing or flying in a D-B marked Spitfire. (D-B was his personal markings, against the advice of the Intel types... Said he had waited YEARS for that privilege, and nobody was moving him from it!)

These photos are the last web-worthy shots I'm going to post from Airsho '84. If Cripes or anyone else cares to add photos to the thread I would be glad to change the title to reflect the content. I definitely invite everyone to contribute if they care to.

This gentleman just walked up and began an "inspection" of SJ, so I went ahead and documented his visit:

You're right, it was a rare one. It originally had a straight wing but was brought back and the wing was replaced with the "cranked" design. There were alot of changes in the systems providing redundance comparable to airline transport aircraft. The executive interior was installed then also. It was a really nice airplane.

Adolf Galland and Sir Bader were there signing prints in 80. I really like this (his) spitfire's markings.

I remember the Spit doing a runup but not flying during the '84 show, I think the word was that it was overheating a bit. It was pretty warm and humid that weekend, and I was a little disappointed in not seeing her fly.

Should I just rename the thread "CAF Airsho Photos of the Past"? That way we can keep the pics in an easy-to-access place for later.

Let me know how you want it titled,
Scott

Robbie,

Sir Douglas Bader passed away on 5 September, 1982 according to Wiki.

Does anybody know what ever happened to the solid nose from this ugly duckling?

That thing would make a nice conversation piece to go with the tailcone sitting in Midland. The B-17 sure looks sleek without any turrets, though.

Okay, I went ahead and renamed the thread to more accurately reflect the content. Anyone who wants to put up Airsho photos here is more than welcome as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for the interest shown so far.

I just made my first trip to Midland for the Winter Staff Conference...
Likewise I feel like I was born too late.

The Nose Art Gallery in the Museum is just magnificent. :prayer:

The second time through was better than the first.
At first I was kinda whiny about WHY couldn't they have saved the planes that they came off of?
But then I realized that sitting on those stands was what WAS left of the real deal. Complete with whatever happened to be on the backside, such as hydraulic lines and bottle mounting brackets.

Just left me speechless!

I hope I can get down to Midland someday to actually see the nose art in the Museum.(You'd think after a thousand hours out in the hangar I would have gotten over there, but I'm not that bright.)

The photos I started off this thread with seem to be the only ones I took in the hangar at Harlingen. I certainly wish I had continued to shoot the rest of them way back then.

This is an WONDERFUL collection, CAF should put together a photo album of this from people like you. Their is history in history! LOL

CAF did some amazing efforts to bring over the Spit, Bf-109, and in particular the CASA 2.111 (Spanish He-111). For a long time and to this day it was the last 111 to fly. That 111 was General Francisco Franco personal transport.

What happened to this A-20? Also, the B-26 Marauder had also crashed, and you have that in your photos too. Tragic.
