Warbird Information Exchange

Does anyone know what the current status of the following warbird types worldwide is - how many are flying, soon to fly or could fly if money thrown at them?

A-1 Skyraiders?

C-119 ?

F9F Panthers?

F-80 Shooting Stars?

C-130 Hercules?

A-26 Invaders?

B-26 Marauders?

Any Hudson, Beaufort, Beaufighter or Mosquitos?

here are the ones I know of

C-119 ? there is only 1 or 2 flying, I flew the Phoenix about 18 months ago

C-130 Hercules? too many to count

A-26 Invaders? there are quiet a few around

B-26 Marauders? 1 under restoration to fly, 2 to static

Any Hudson, Beaufort, Beaufighter or Mosquitos? 3 Mosquitos under restoration to fly, 1 Beaufighter to fly,

Im not aware of any C130 warbird owners.. can you show me who is?

I'm relatively sure that most, if not all, civilian owned C-130's are working birds...government contract work, fire fighting, etc. I saw one a couple months ago up in Kalispell MT that was hauling freight.

So we doubt we ever see a civil warbird hercules anytime? or too much a workhorse ?

3 what? Mosquitos?

There are several static Hudsons under restoration here in New Zealand, slowly, plus a pristine one on display at Wigram. None will fly however.

There are two Mosquito projects to fly being worked on in South Auckland, with perhaps more to follow hopefully.

There's also an Avro Anson Mk 1 very close to flying in NZ.

I understand there are two Beaufighter projects in the UK destined to fly, but not in this decade I'd think. Plus there's a Blenheim Mk 1 there too being put back into the air, a conversion from a Bolingbroke.

A museum in Racine WI obtained a former US Navy TACAMO and NASA EC-130Q now registered as N427NA. I was one of the pilots that ferried it from Georgetown DE to Racine in fall of 2004. It was squawk-free and in phenomenal condition when we flew it. Some engine runs were done periodically after it arrived but it hasn't flown since. There are limitations on what they can do with it in regards to generating revenue. Not sure if there are any plans to get it flying again.

Welcome aboard. Since you asked about eleven types of aircraft, and in the case of the C-130's there are literally thousands in worldwide service, may I make a couple of suggestions? On this website you can check the warbird registry and get a pretty good update on many of those eleven, like the A-1 Skyraider. then you can use the Search function on this site and reference previous posts and topics . This will cover all of the aircraft you asked about.
I think the Beaufort has even been covered within the last year. Good Luck!

there's three beaufighter project's the hars one is still going nd i dont think i'll see one in the air by the end of this decade(but i can hope).
the mossie two in newzealand and one in canada,
beauforts one in australia.
blenheim on in the uk.
hudson i heard steve searl has bought a mk111
that was converted to a load star and is convrting it back to a hudson.
the other's i dont know about

not to forget that there is a flying Hudson already, (thanks to Malcolm Long) in Australia at the Temora Aviation Museum.

Does Uncle Sam still provide active C-130s to airshows in exchange for some hotel rooms?

As cool as a C-130 as a warbird sounds, I would hate to be the guy responsible to pry fuel and appearance fees from an airshow sponsor. Been there done that with some other thirsty warbirds!

Who's restoring a Marauder to airworthy status? The only current projects I'm aware of are the ones at Pima and MAPS, both of which I believe are static. The only other complete airframes I know of are Kermit Weeks B-26, the B-26Gs at NMUSAF and the the French Aviation Museum, and of course Flak Bait at the Smithsonian. Weeks' Marauder is the only potentially airworthy one, but it hasn't flown in ten years or so.
