I just love those oddball non-sexy birds, Give me more P-39's, P-40's, Razorback P-47's, short winged B-26's and A-20's solid nosed and packing a whole lot of heat! I've seemingly always had an interest in the 5th AF and their Innovative modifications.

Some like those were us by P-47 pilots.
I know someone's father used them in Italy when he was in the 350th FG .I was told they were not very accurate but keep some of the ground gunners heads down.
P-51 and P-38's I have seen photo's with something like those tubes on.

Believe it or not, someone thought to hang one of these babies under the aft fuselage of a B-24 as an experiment. I have a grainy picture of the installation somewhere in my piles. I'd imagine the tail gunner winced a little when he fired all three at the same time!

I had read somewhere (Maybe "Aircobra Advantage") that
the P-39M had the electrical wiring for A/G rockets.
