Believe it or not, Mr. Genne actually included a picture of his camera as well! It's a Kodak Monitor Six-16.

Thanks for posting those incredible pictures Rob, they made my day. As a fan of the T-6, was glad to see those. Just wish my screen was bigger so I could fully enjoy them.....

Guest:

I did not associate the close-up of the Corsairs with the aerial shot of the ramp. In looking further, you may be correct. In the ramp shot, the third aircraft in that row is definitely a Bearcat, and in looking closer at the close-up of the Corsairs, I noticed that the lower edge of the canopy frame on the partially hidden third aircraft has a different angle (slant) to it than the FG-2, and does look more like the frame on a Bearcat.

My apologies to jumping to a conclusion without adequate investigation. Mea culpa.

F2G Close-up

Anyone notice that the pic of the man in the Corsair cockpit with man standing on wing is the F2G?

Robs, Genne "snaps"

Fri Jan 28, 2005 5:49 am

Yeah, I noticed that Mike..but the standing-guys leg crosses the #..is
it a 6, or an 8? So ...

Rob, Genne captures verry well the 'Gruntz side of the business' of a
Carrier Service Unit. Yep! He loved that camera & the 616 dealt-back
spades! What was his rank/rate, specialty? The Kodak Monitor Six-16
circa '39-'48, set him back "aboot 50bux", ..with 'parallax adjustment'!
The camera has a bit of a "cult following"...some of the same folks collect
the earlier and same period German stuff. The 616 film is not available,
so they have to adapt from 120 film..which turn a "medium format" camera into a "medium format panoramic"...as I understand it...

and

In my opinion Joe Genne also was choosy about his film..his fotos are
so Crisp..and well composed, or caught...

In digging around about Mr. Genne, I ran across a post of his on a forum
requesting info, or input from former CASU-1, or post-Oct.1,1946...
and the thereafter designated, FASRON-11. Is he writing an article etc. or compiling for the sake of personal history and interest ? Just curious...

OOOO!!!OOOO!!! on the RATO lift-off of the Catalina..Genne was "panning"
and in the lower part of the frame, is a row of JRF "Geese" and a few J4F Widgeons on the flight-line..Pretty Good if that's his worst offering! I almost wonder if that is not a shot from a different camera?...but I digress.
Thanx again!!

One of the best thread seen for ages

Rob,

Thanks for taking the time and effort to post those pictures. Most enjoyable

Particularly liked the shot of the Curtis , as I've only seen one other study that good.

What did happen to all those Curtis Kingfisher replacements by the way?

Hi Airnutz!
I sure hope you're wrong. I manage to bring up the SC1 and 2 in the forum about once a quarter. It's one of my favorite birds. I keep on hoping someones going to ask about a big ole weird floating fighter looking plane that is out behind his uncles barn up in Canada or Minnesota, show us the picture here on WIX, and all of our jaws will drop.

Hi Rob!
I've seen just about every Seahawk picture available on the internet, and they are very few. The picture you posted of the Seahawk is the best one I have seen yet. All of the pictures are spectacular! Thanks for posting them, and count me in for a cd also.

I'll indulge you a bit further then! :D

Seahawks

O.P.,
I didn't mean to given the impression of impossibility of a Seahawk lurking
in a barn somewhere...just its improbability. I too, would love to see one
flying... or "touch wood", that I should find one buried under "tarps and
dust"! Anything is possible!

I think the nature of the Curtiss SC's configuration, among other things,
lent itself to an early demise in possibilities as to survivors. Seahawk was more of a flying boat, than an amphibian...unlike the J2F Duck, Widgeons,
etc. Beaching gear was required for the float-version, and when bereft
of floats, the "narrow nature" of the shore-gear, would suggest to me it
could be a "twitchy handful" upon landing...in my vastly inexperienced
opinion. The shore-gear was an add-on wasn't it? No retract gear?

Yes, Virginia...there is a Santa Claus...

Thanx again Rob! Keep them "fixes" comin' !!!

Hi Airnutz! I was just trying to say Keep the Faith Baby! I agree with everything you say. There's not much use for it off of the Battleship. The land gear was fixed and had big spats/fairings over them, looked pretty cool. It's a long shot one will turn up, but one will. It's up north somewhere, I know it.
