Ki-44 Parts Request on Barnstormers

Hello Folks:

Did you guys see the Ki-44 parts request on Barnstormers recently? I called the guy, and he said that a group in Australia got the plane from Indo. Anyone know anything?

You couldnt bring this in to Australia without somebody knowing about it.

I didnt see the ad on Banstormers and none of the major players down here have heard about it. Sounds a bit suss really.

Something has happened - went to Victoria I believe - Japanese but I didn't hear type or for whom - I thought it was more Ki61 stuff for Wangarratta but apparently not....... We should keep our eyes and ears open

Apparently there is a Ki44 being restored in Japan - perhaps it could have been for that?

There is a famous collector /restorer called Malcom Long in Victoria - could that be the Name ?

No, It was Malcolm Laing, and he left his phone number in Lubbock, Texas on Barnstormers.

Another previously extinct Japanese WWII fighter type is no more.

Am i correct in saying there wasn't up to now any preserved or known wreck of any KI-44 ?

Hello,

This is very interesting news if the Ki-44 was successfully recovered and will be rebuilt. I have lots of contacts in Japan and have traveled everywhere but never heard of a Ki-44 there. I know of no other airframes there so this would be a great rebuild.

Malcolm Laing is the same guy who did the semi-restorations of those Norwegian Fw-190's a few years back (White 1 being one of them)... Interesting that he's into Japanese aircraft now.

I would be willing to bet there is no Ki44 nor is it in Australia.

First of all I dont believe the Ki44 made it to Indo for service but please prove me wrong, secondly my sources tell me it might be a typo and should read Ki46

No help here but there is some Dinah stuff un the Northern Territory - a few were shot down over Australia during the war - not enough to restore on but who can say that these days........ Darwin Aviation Museum has some remains and there is some other stuff around the country and in store. I think one can be rebuilt one day.

I agree a 111 would be nice - a very nice looking aircraft and they go like stink too.....

No, I talked to him on the phone and it was posted on Barnstormers. Ki-44's were not used by the Indonesian military. They were based in various parts of Indo during the war. It came out of Indonesia.
