Banaire sells those for T-6's. Guess how much they cost? $400

How much would it cost (considering the value of your time) if you got stranded somewhere with a flat?

I also understand that some folks fill their tubes with silicone to preclude flats. Might correct a nose heaviness problem as well.

Sounds like a guy could spend about a hunert' bux and have him one
made local..that is if he would bother to get to know the local retired
aviation guys and machinists. I'm sure he'd appreciate the "$ benefits"
of being contracted for a short production run of 10 or 20 tires.

Might be a way to aid in the financing of a youthful reckless scheme
seeking toys and fortune in another hemisphere! Sighhh...I'd like to be
there again.....but I don't like the odds of the current period.....

I think Jay only has the 12.50 SC wheels.

The tires (as Glenn says) are rarer than hens teeth.
Nylon / useable ones anyway.... I have two NOS
nylon 12.50SC tires, and I've set up one original
tailwheel with one of these tires as a spare. Whomever
said they're hard is right! Even NOS Nylon ones are hard as
a rock.... Lots of fun to install on the rim, and even more
fun to get the danged thing back off of said rim!

I have a newly manufactured 6-bolt P-51 tailwheel
on my SNJ (hi Glenn) with the 12.50 x 4.5 CT tire.

I think it's fair to say that if you ever have a flat,
or roll the t/w tire off of the rim, nobody will stock
either tire (certainly, nobody will have the 12.50SC
tire on-hand....).

Like a lot of other old taildraggers, the more savvy
types of owners will carry a "ready-to-go" spare
around.

I have the solid tire that came with my SAAF T-6. The only problem I have noticed is that if the airplane sits awhile, it develops a flat spot and wobbles when I taxy. It is smooth contour, but does not seem to affect controllability. The best thing about it is that it is absolutely maintenance free, and it sure looks like it is going to last forever. I have no idea if that is what Banaire is selling. Lance got all the ex-SAAF stuff, to my knowledge.
