This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Um, well, that's not even what the USAF is saying. If you read the court decision, even there it was NOT a loan per the documents. At best for them it may have been a conditional donation under questionable circumstances.

Oscar- Neither you nor I know the complete facts of this, however, as I understand it the aircraft, of which the CAF had documented ownership, was exchanged for a flying P-38. The exchange was unraveled as any charitable organization not wishing for expensive litigation would do. Please tell me where your facts are coming from.

Gee, Oscar, the documentation in hand may not reflect that position. And what has mentioning Scientology got to do with the F-82. Last time I heard, even Scientologists can own property and have an interest in warbirds, and, no, I'm not one.

Oscar.... In the exhange/sale/trade, the P-82 was not sold to Tom Cruise. The gentlemen involved was/is a businessman who also owns several other warbirds (including two Corsairs), but likes to keep his name out of print. He had planned to open a museum in Colorado... do not know if it that will still happen.... Alan Brooks

People should not be concerned about the Air Force going after any WWII warbirds that were stricken from record prior to the mid 1950s. My understanding is the USAF lost all records to these aircraft in a fire and have no proof of ownership themselves, thus they have not historically claimed ownership.
