Ron Fagen still has several more P-40 projects (6?) and a P-39 project, doesn't he? It will be great to see more projects done to the same caliber, if that can be achieved.

I agree with the same sentiments, that I hope whoever purchases the aircraft will keep it exactly how it is.

I owe Erik a disk of pictures and am working on it now.
For the current P-40E they're leaning towards a AAF N. Africian scheme.
But, I'm working on him to do a scheme for a P-40 ace from his MN hometown 8)

Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the "flagship" of Warhawks Inc.? The whole goal was to turn these '40's around, along the same basic idea with Tim and the T-6's, minus the production line.

Hi Trey,

Ron does have something like seven P-40 projects in queue along with a P-39. From past conversations with he and Erik, the plan was to restore them individually to the highest quality possible, fly each as his own personal airplane until the next was close to being ready to fly and then sell the existing flyer. I’m not sure how Erik’s departure from Warhawk’s Inc. has impacted that plan, if at all. I would say that seeing his current flyer on the market is a strong indication that the old “Shirley II” is probably going to be flying next spring or early summer.

Didn't Fagen also end up with the SB2C project that was at Aero Trader?

Yes he did. Anyone know the current status of the Helldiver? Has work started on it yet?

Yes, he still has it. It's down at Kenny Hake's shop and work is slowly progressing on. Fear not CAF Helldiver crew...from what I've been told by first hand sources, it's going to be a long time before you lose your corner on the Helldiver world!

Who'd want it? After all, the area under the rear windows is the wrong color.

Is that a serious comment Steve?

Strictly tongue-in-cheek. Technically, the area should be OD, but she's still a darned gorgeous bird!

To quote one of my favorite flicks: "I'd buy that for a dollar!" Unfortunately, that's about all I have to spare right now..

"Shirley II" - isn't that the ex-Diemert P-40?

Yes? No? Maybe? Is that a good answer? :)

Many listings and articles seem to infer so, but I'm not convinced.

1. Shirley is listed as AK753/N4420K and in the registry is listed as a Russian wreak that was restored by a WIX member and flew in 98.

2. The Granger Taylor/Diemert kitbash P-40, Merlin, etc. is listed with the FAA as N7205A. I've seen it listed as both AK836 and AK823. I'm not sure if one or both are correct, or if indeed anyone knows what P-40 the kitbash was started off with. My guess is the latter. It crashed in 97.

So in my opinion these are two different airplanes. I'm not sure how Fagen could have taken the kitbash and turned it into Shirley in a year. Not to mention there was a Museum...I think the Dakota Territory Museum that has a shot of the kitbash P-40 fuselage on their site as a future project. (See here: http://www.dakotaterritoryairmuseum.com./finalgallarypics/curtisp40.jpg) Could this be a paperwork thing...or did Fagen use the wings off the kitbash on Shirley..or...? It is quite a mystery...

Can anyone shed some light on this esoteric, and ultimately meaningless question?

the warbird digest article linked to the P-40 ad on Courtesy's website gives details on what was used where on the Diemert P-40 after Fagen bought it
