COW STRIKE!!!

At 39 to 41 seconds in you can see the left aileron deflect up as the cow spits out from under the wing. I'd say it's real but the cow is also a gymnast and I give her a 8.5!

You would have thought the cow would have mooooved over when it had seen the plane turning final.

Carole's Holsteen would have taken out the entire left side of the plane.

The backseater IS the flying pilot. And he sure seems to be working hard after the engine failure. You can see him glance quickly around for the best field to put it in. You can also see him pulse the stick back in his lap at the last second before grazing the cow, in order to hop the plane over a fence line.

Looks totally plausable and real to me. Great job to the gentleman involved!

I'm voting real. The camera is rigidly mounted, so the airplane doesn't move in the frame during the strike, but the background appears to move around some.

Well, I still don't see any details in the above other than those in the video mentioned. You would think that by now there would be some names, locations, etc. if this were real. I'm still sceptical - sorry.

I seem to remember Cow Pie having two cow kill markings on it when it rolled out for the first flight. :wink:

waaaaaaay back in my college flying days (Kent State), one of my good friends was departing on a night flight in a C-152. He struck a deer right at the point of rotation. As described by him, the initial impact didn't seem too hard, but he had a noticeable vibration, and he decided to take the short hop down to CAK to have the tower take a look at the nose gear during a pass. It was still in place, and he made an uneventful landing there. I can't remember what exactly they found bent on the plane, but I do remember very clearly a polaroid taken the next morning of my buddy holding the buck's severed head, (about an 8 point). It was cut clean, right through the middle of the neck.

Randy, (and all else who were sceptical and thought this was a fake)

Seems to tie in with what the video shows, plus more importantly, we know why the engine died!

And for those with Google Earth or other mapping software, just look up Dunkeswell, Devon, and you'll be able to see the airfield, and field where the pilot force landed.

With that extra info, I found the airfield on Google Earth and compared it to what was shown in the video and do agree that that seems to be the correct location, thus, it is probably real. That said, it just doesn't look real in the video - perhaps due to the lowered quality. Thanks for providing the added info. Fly safe for the holidays.

When you post a subject line with the words crash or down, there are a number of us on here that own, operate or take care of COWS. My first thought is did I lose a friend today ? I have alot of friends that fly Mustangs, T-6s, T-28s and Bill with the Spitfire, also others that fly B-17s, B-25s, Corsairs, T-bolts. So when I see a post like that, I take it personal. Unless you have lost someone close to you in a COW STRIKE, you might not, but I have, and it is not fun having to ID your best friend and pasenger, and tell his wife that the COW is not coming home.

If you are asking about a COW STRIKE, please put the date in the subject line, instead of just COW STRIKE, you might get more looks without the date, but there are alot of us that lose a few heartbeats when we see COW in the subject line.

For Gods sake can you people please read the sticky. Please put a date in the subject line. I nearly had a heart attack thinking this could have been one of those many nameless cows I've chased over the years. Blah, Blah, Blah......
