Donahue Corsair

I am friends with Archie and Mary Donahue and they informed me that there is a Corsair being unvieled at Cavanaugh Flight Museum with his markings Memorial Day weekend! Anyone have more info. on this A/C and event? Here is a pic. of them taken at a banquet I hosted for WWII Pilots at the last Wings Over Houston airshow.

Tracey, I wasn't able to find an accident report for the Cavenaugh forced landing last year, and I've also not been able to find a report for the CAF's FG-1D accident back in 1974. I was wondering if you'd ever happened across any documents covering either accident.

In retorspect I've found quite a few well pubicized accidents missing from the NTSB query. Not sure how they gauge what, and what not to include.

The Cavanaugh Corsair (the former Paul Morgan machine) suffered a gear up landing a year or two ago, and when it bellied in, it slid somewhat sideways, twisting the fuselage a bit from what I heard, and it's taken a bit of time to get her straightened out....looking forward to seeing her in her new paint, however....met Donahue at the Corsair gathering and got him to sign my Corsair book, seemed like a really nice guy.

They had a run away prop and approach did a really bad job of helping the pilot find a airport. I was with a student and broke off our training to try to help and locate him on the ground. He really did a great job of putting it down with little damage.

Finally got to the CFM today. It sure is a nice, spotless museum (makes sense with the jani-king connection!) Corsair #92399 was actively being worked on. It was getting a new gps/comm and attention to the exterior finish. The fuselage paint appeared to be complete with the Donahue/19 scheme while the wings were installed, but the paint work not yet done on them. It's also waiting on the engine. The plane looked great and I am anxious to see it complete and at Oshkosh this summer! Thanks to the guys there for taking the time to chat.

........so I found myself in a hangar with 2 Corsairs (the CAF bird was there), a P-40 and a few others- I'd say I had a good day.

I drove by today and it was out on the ramp sitting in the sun next to the CAF's Corsair. Gen/Col Doug has done a great job with it
