Cool, thanks for the picture! That should keep Challenge Publications from using your picture! :D

I don't blame you on using watermarks!

You can make the words go away with the GIMP!

Not that I took, I wasn't around when it arrived.

I figured that if the photo gets cross posted, at least the WIX will get some free advertising!

Cindy wrote:It flew in - quite a site to see. Unfortunately, being at Yanks, it will probably never fly again.

Why doesn't POF buy one and operate it then? Maybe because they don't have the money? It has flown more recently than the POF B-17 after all (30+ years and counting).

Please at least give Yanks credit for buying it, paying to get it ferriable and putting it on public display. It will be a pleasure for me to see it sitting in their yard. It adds that much more ambiance to the Chino Airport experience.

I hope that someone has some inflight photos of this event?

Niiice! 8) I'd like to see at least one of the old H&P Privateers preserved in her tanker configuration, and do water drops at airshows. I watched one do a water drop at an airshow back in the 80s..pretty spectacular!

Of course, I'd also love to see one restored back to full military config (complete with R-1830s) and painted in tri-color.

For now, I'm just glad they won't be left fading away in the Wyoming weeds.

More pictures @ http://warbirdsusa.org

And believe me, we at Squadron 16 would love to see this thing kept in the air.

And let me extend an invite to any/every one to swing by on the 1st and/or the 3rd Saturday at Yanks to check it out and see what we're all about.

Thanks

eddier

Im sure PoF would buy one if they had the money and a place to put it.
Its still sad to see it end its flying career like that it seems like they are making the same mistake that PoF made by letting there b-17 sit around on the ground. what a shame :(

POF did not have a choice with the B-17, there was a disagreement as to who owned the plane, the air force or POF, once te POF got the title to the plane, they started restoration to fly.

Matt, how did the POF get ownership of the B-17? :?:

And restoration was started almost 8 years ago. It jsut doesn't seem to be one of their most important projects. I can understand that, as they have a ton of stuff.

Here's a few photos of the newly arrived Yank's Consolidated Privateer at Chino. I took these on the afternoon of 23 Nov., 2008. This majestic beast takes up a LOT of ramp space! It is currently tied down outside of the Yanks compound; I'm not so sure that it can fit inside. Of course, this Privateer has had its original Pratt R-1830s replaced with Wright R-2600s, as have all existing Privateers that had to work for a living, to the best of my knowledge. These are wonderful, oil-dripping R-2600-29As with 1,700 hp each. B-I-G increase over the original 1,200 hp Pratts.
