I thought ya'll might be intersted in these 2 photos of T-28B BuNo 138158 N138RR owned by my friend Jim Elkins and flown by wix hero pilot jcw. During the bicentennial celibration in 1976 Navy squadron were allowed to repaint 1 aircraft in a red, white & blue in honor of our countrys 200 anniversary. 138158 was chosen for VT-2s effort. I took the first photo at Whiting North Field around August 1976 and the later from our B-25 in 2003 with John Herlihy flying.

Nice lookin plane. Maybe when I get my T28...hmmmm

I think thats the only RWB paint scheme I've seen that I really like. I guess I'm not that biased, although you can paint a T28 purple and put horsey's, rainbows and happy faces on it and I'd still like it.

There are a few polished ones out there- mostly A and D models.

BTW N188RR is for sale. OP get your checkbook out. Very low engine and prop, stab mod, clean kit, modified electricial system ect.

Maaannnn I wish. I'm a couple of years out. Not too long, just gotta be patient. It's a good lookin plane though, and the engine looks good too. No massive exhaust stains, no oil on the gear doors and on the ground............wait a minute......tell him to shut the plane off....I don't think theres any oil in it...

Would that be the same Herlihy that has been both a 51 and Bearcat owner, and did he get killed in a plane crash not so long ago???

Makes me miss my old T-28B, BuN 137668

John Herlihy did have a P-51D and a F8F in years past. His F8F was named Sweet Pea and is now Wampus Cat with Bill Anders. He was up here in Salem often to fly Jim Elkin's P-51D. In fact he flew the P-51 and his T-28 in just beautful arcobatic performances at the airshows we had here in Salem. I'd never thought of a T-28 has graceful but John made it so. He was killed about 2 years ago in southern Oregon while giving instruction in a T-28B that the owner recently purchased. As I recall an oil line gave way and all the oil was pumped overboard causing a catastrophic engine failure. Since the were over a heavily forested terrain John had no where to put it down. He was killed in the crash and his student very severely injured and I don't beleive ever recovered from his injuries. The T-28B involved in the crash was BuNo 138321 N28AF and the date was 10-28-03 near Hornbrook, CA. John also flew Sam Richardson's YAK-11 and Steve Seghetti's P-51D "Sparky" regularly and raced them at Reno.
