It would be nice to see Pappy's 883 aircraft. And he was from the North West!

Pappy Boyington??? No way not the ultimate anti-hero. Could you guys pick anyone less deserving?? Besides being a drunk and a lier (among many other things) he paints his mistresses name on his plane (Lucybelle vice Lulubelle).
I'll stick with Ed Schiess of VBF-83. Just a typical ordinary guy who you'll never read about in a history book. But did more that his share. He's a great representitive to all the flew the HOG. #2 would be Don Wilson's VMF-122 FG-1D. He's and Ed are cut from the same mold besides being neighbors! Brad, what did you think of the color photos???

Gee Wiz Jack, Lightnin up on Pappy. Remember he shot down what 25 Japanese planes? He was a fighter and a killer. Just what we needed to win a war. yea he had other problems but give him some respect.

After a year of my begging, pleading, crying, temper tantrums and finally threatening the publication of incriminating photos, Mustangpilot has made a decision about his Corsair.
HE'S GIVING IT TO ME!!!! (Don't I wish)
Anyhow, the back seat and side door are being removed and the tail section is being returned to original condition. This work is currently underway with John Lane and his crew at Airpower Unlimited out in Idaho.
We are still looking for suggestions on paint jobs, so keep those cards and letters coming in.

Corsair Colour Scheme - How abou this,

Hello,
I fully expect that the colour scheme for the Corsair is well and truely decided by now.
But
I would have been VERY pleased if the aircraft could be made up as one flown by one of the lesser know hero's . From one of the lesser known Ships
That of the Corsair of VMF 312 Checkerboard Squadron flown off of the USS Bairoko (CVE-115) by the then Captain William D. Smart.
Bill was brought down in enemy territory was wounded and was resqued by a Sikorsky flown by 1Lt. Jack R. Calhoun, Bill was later returned to the Bairoko to continue service.
Bill was later to contribute in the making of the film"Air Strike".
Bill's Corsair would be the marking of my choice.

Maj.(ret.) Smart, back in 2003. Is he still well and residing in S. Carolina?
Has he sent you any photos of his F4U..of the rescue copter, etc. ?

VMF -312 had nice markings but wrong Corsair and wrong war. That was a Korea War incident with a F4U-4 this is a FG-1D.

Nothing like losing ordanance to make the day go by faster. I remember a AIM-9 going by me one. I just kept think "man-that's just not right!"

Personally, I like the tri color look but if you want the solid blue............why do you "need" to put in someones markings................why not have it with that "fresh from the factory"look?
