Hi all,

Someone posted these pics over on a model building forum. The gentleman said his freind is restoring this BT-13, and was surprised to find all the interior surfaces primed in blue. The poster gave few details. I'm wondering if maybe this is from a prior restoration, or possibly the aircraft was originally built with a blue fuselage/yellow wings, and they simply painted the fuselage blue inside and out during construction.

Any thoughts?

Steve

Steve,

I'm involved with a wadded-up BT that was never restored or repainted. We don't know the serial number (yet) but the interior of the aft fuselage and inside of the wings is all bare metal.

My BT-13 is an early, pre-war A model and it was painted USAAF blue on the inside of the fuselage as well. I expect a bit of light sanding would expose the primer under that blue.

If the outside was blue the inside was blue, the later natural metal A/Cs were green zink chromate inside

I looked at my photos of our heap of parts, and the aft fuselage is indeed primered. Memory loss is.....I forgot what I was going to type.

That makes sense. There's a fair bit of stencilling here and there inside mine as well.
