Drove by Meacham Field yesterday at lunch and saw this sitting at the pro shop. Apparently delveloped a bit of a leak so they decided to do take care of it and an AD at the same time.

Haven't see her in years! Cool!

It was great to see the Helldiver down in Fredericksburg last weekend. See the Fredericksburg threads for more shots. I'm particularly partial to the markings she carries as my great uncle was on board the Franklin when it was hit.

Come on guys, let's leave it alone! You don't have to pick fights!

???? ... who's fighting? .... I think someone is fighting with himself. IMHO ... I have no problems here. Think and say what you want. I don't care much for static anything ... but that's just me, and I really don't matter much so who really cares to fight?

I do like the idea your great uncle might have known my dad who also was on the Franklin when it got hit in Oct 1944.

and yes, roll out "Flak Bait" and fly it once in a while. Just be careful with it. ... SSB, MB, swoose, all of them. Wishfull thinking isn't it? .... be nice!!!!

You know guys...the point of this was to show some pics of an Warbird...not to rehash a debate that is getting rather tiresome. There is no reason for this kinda stuff.

Gee whiz.

(and yeah I saw the Fredericksburg threads...Great fun! I just wanted to get in on the act...)

Ztex I am sorry that even bothered to respond, it just bugs the crap out of me that people can be so close minded and not see the big picture. The pic is cool of the Sb2C being overhauled.

I don't understand the big problem here. No one's fighting with anyone, at least I'm not, so why do you have to delete my posts?. Static vs. flying ... debate away!!!! knock yourselves out!!, who really cares? it's always an interesting debate and fun at times, it just seems one person here gets all fired up about the subject everytime, like we're all pointing fingers at him or the museum he volunteers at. I'm just generalizing for sake of discussion, NOT ARGUMENT!!! ... If you guys want to sensor certain topics, well, it's your website, do as you please. I'm just a lucky visitor.

Maybe it's me, but are warbird enthusiasts turning into sensative wusses lately. I hope not.

I'm the only sensative wuss allowed to post here on WIX. ...

PS, Great looking airplane ... GLAD IT'S A FLYER!!!!!

Thanks for the pictures, I liked them. And the plane too.

One of these days somebody will explain to me how the fuselage aft of the gunner (turtleback ?) goes up and down.

Now that the thread's been modified, my post looks kind of funny. LOL. I didn't say anyone was fighting, just trying to keep it from happening.

Anyway, your dad was a pilot on board, right? My uncle was a radioman on the island. As part of his job he would sometimes take message all over the ship. He was up at his station when they were hit. There was smoke filling the air in the island and fires as well. He ended up getting out through a porthole and dropping a few decks onto a steel platform ! From what he's told us the area they were in appeared to be surrounded by fire and they decided to get off of the area in order to survive. There were already men in the water, and he figured it must be time to get off. He cut some flotation devices loose and then jumped. It still ticks him off to this day the way the captain treated some of those guys who'd jumped - not allowing them back on the ship. At least from his point of view he might've died - like a bunch of his friends - if he hadn't done so.

Are you serious? I DO get a ton of flak here for where I volunteer. People insulted the work that I help with, and now I am a jerk because I called them on it. Whatever man.

And now none of this even makes sense now that the thread has been changed.

Hey, what do you know? ... this thread "mysteriously" unlocked just as fast as it "mysteriously" locked. ...

Maybe it crashed because of "static" in the system .. or maybe it was something "airborn" that caused a crash .... 8) 8)

Just funning, don't get upset anyone.

Settle down MD ... No one is bashing you at all. especially NOT ME!!!! ... You're still a cool dude, even if you do get worked up now and then, actually it's good for you, I do it all the time ... haha

BTW ... how come you don't take flak for claiming to be a Mustangdriver? ... It's not fair I tell you  ... I'm NOT a Hellcatdriver, but I once had a login name as "Hellcatdriver" and I got scolded and had to write on the blackboard:

I AM NOT A HELLCATDRIVER!
I AM NOT A HELLCATDRIVER!
I AM NOT A HELLCATDRIVER!
I AM NOT A HELLCATDRIVER!

A hundred times ... I learned my lesson!!! .... 8)

Back to the photos of the CAF's Helldiver, I have a fond interest in this airplane. Dad flew one a few times and said the big bird was fun to fly. And now that I know that it is marked as a Franklin bird, I like her even more. I saw this plane in Midland a few years ago. Very nice looking airplane.

Be careful CAF .... it's the only one flying today. Thanks for flying it.

Mark to grateful helldiver lover and NOT the Hellcatdriver ...
