Ronald Reagan

I worked for that guy for 8 years. I rode boats in the Pacific and the Atlantic for the whole time while he was president. The cold war stopped because of him. Our lives and everyones lives got better because of him stopping it. I grew up in the 70's. I always assumed we would fight the Soviets. We didn't. President Reagan ran them cats outta cash, and out of a country. I'm thankful for that. I think we should all be thankfull for that. He was a good guy, and he's going to be missed.

My four years of riding ships around Asia where under someone else, I wish I could have severed in those years. Things started to get really tight just before I got out in 97. Lets hope the media doesn't try and steal the Soviet victory away from him. The news tonight seemed to really force a negative slant on his 8 years

Being born in the 1970's I grew up with President Reagan and lifing with a strong conservitive Republican father ment Reagan was more or less liked. He was the first leader I remember and his strong speaking skills and hand I found welcoming. He won the "Cold War" because of the arms race. Now sailing in the Pacific is a Carrier that barrs his name.

If you ever get a chance to sit and read the letters that Mrs. Reagan published that he rwote or to read what other world leaders thought of him it is well worth it. In the years I was growing up I lived near a SAC base, in Northern Maine. If the war did come it would have been short for me and a lot of my friends.

The Reagan Library is fantastic. And now there is an airplane to see there too!

I think that Reagan was unquestionably the greatest US president of the 20th century. His positive outlook and the pride he had in his country was contagious.

Note that Reagan had a degree in economics and lowered taxes to stimulate the economy, thus increasing tax revenue (which worked by the way). All the nay-sayers now complain that Bush will bankrupt the country by doing the same thing. The liberal US news media sure has a conveniently short memory...

I am not shure if he was the greatest of the 20th century, i am partial to FDR, but he did do a lot to help. His balance of Domestic and Foreign issues was very good. As for the compairisions on Bushing being able to stimulate the ecconomy the same way I am sckeptical. Only because the situation is differnt and he is spending a lot more and cutting differntly. Also I am worried that his overall plans for the future are not that clear, so I should get some more reading done.

I am not able to agree totally with you about the overy liberal media. I will say that the US media in general is very jaded.

I am not trying to compair the two. i would agree that Reagan was the better man. I wanted to say or am thinking that Bush is trying to use the same approch, but he is not as well versed in its use.

Question: I was watching the news and one of Kerries adds came on and it almost sounded like he is more Moderate even Republican in some of his views. Just a thought am I totally off base?

FDR with his "New Deal" created the modern welfare state. He surely was one of the worst presidents of the 20th century, and likely caused the depression to last longer than it would have otherwise.

The President does not have the authority to spend money.

If you agree that reducing taxes stimulates private investment, why would it matter who the President is? The net effect is positive.

Bush does seem to be unlike Reagan in one obvious way however. Reagan endeavored to reduce the size of government, but Bush 43 has probably increased the size of government more than Clinton ever dreamed of...

They flyover was very nice. I watched it on Tv and am still woundering if the 747 that he arrived at Andrews in is the current plane that Mr. Bush uses?

Also on the memorial side his namesake carrier will soon be ready for full deployment. In some of the memorial gifts left there patches and hats of the USS Ronald Reagan.

FDR did a lot for this country and his social welfare programs were never ment to become the pariah that they are now.
