Congratulations and welcome to the CAF. I am going on my sixth season with the Great Lakes Wing of the CAF.
I am happy to be part of it.

When my folks took me to Harlingen, Texas, to see the CAF in the 1970s, I would never have dreamed in a milllion years that I would actually be part of it. And now I am a very active member of my wing and I am getting great practical hands-on warbird experience from the old hands in the wing.
I go to about eight to ten airshows a year as a flight crew member on board our C-47B. Being part of the warbird community, I have the opportunity to meet lots of great people and pilots. Good luck with the CAF.

Congratulations Scott!

The CAF needs young folks to keep the whole deal going for another fifty years. My only advice to you is one that will apply to everything in life: you will get out of the experience (of being a CAF member) exactly what you put into it. If you can accept the fact that you must put forth effort, the rewards you will receive will be great. As a thirty year member, I had no idea when I joined that I'd end up as Chief of Staff...I was just a young guy who loved WW II aviation, and then, one day, I looked around and found I wasn't the "new guy" and it was up to me to take some responsibility for the continued success of the organization.

Get involved, stay involved, don't expect things to be handed to you, and you will be fine. I look forward to meeting you one day, perhaps at Airsho 09? I'll be doing the "swearing in" ceremony....

Welcome onboard. Having once been the youngest in the outfit I am happy to say that "title" went away pretty fast. Now after 14 years, I am considered an old war horse. Old Shep is right, get in there and get your hands dirty is the best way to help keep the CAF alive.

Welcome aboard. I know when I joined the Old Dominion Squadron 9 years ago, I brought the average down to about 60. I look back at the last 15 years I have been involved in the CAF and it has been a blast, where else could an 18 year old fly in the only airworthy LB-30 (sorry to call it that Gary but at the time that was what Ol' 927 was). Just remember to listen to and learn everything you can from the "seasoned citizens" around you.
