EXCUSE ME.......Imagine my surprise on finding Harvard had stolen my ill-conceived comments (since retracted) from the FlyPast board and posted them over here! NOT APPRECIATED, sir! I am a big fan of the CAF and have enjoyed watching that particular Corsair at many airshows and use an air to air I shot of it as my avatar on the FlyPast forum, it brings back many good memories, and I wish the CAF good luck in the future with the Corsair and am as glad as anyone that the Pilot is uninjured and would love to hear more details of what happened...

I am sorry to hear of the damage. Accidents do happen and most of us have made a mistake or two in our lives.
We should not blame someone without the facts. I wish the CAF well. I don't happen to have any extra parts in the affected areas, but may know of some if it will help.

Chris did'nt make those comments, I did, and as I said, they were plagiarized from the FlyPast forum by 'harvard' and I have already apologized for them. Read everything above. I don't appreciate, however, the fact that someone brought them over from the other forum and posted them here after I had made a retraction on the FlyPast forum....now I gotta put out TWO fires instead of one....but then I guess THAT'S my own fault...

Sorry about that. I had tried to put them in quotes, and was just trying to put quotes from flypast on the warbirdsresourcegroup forum. There was some debate over the Flypast forum.

It's easy to take jabs at the CAF, However none of us would be around if it wasn't for the CAF. They started the warbird movement. The CAF has more operations than all other warbird groups and individuals, and by a past study of the industry has fewer accidents than the warbird industry itself. When you fly 100 planes each year on hundreds of sorties, you will have some problems. Last year they had one minor prop strike and a take off accident, no injuries. The CAF has instituted a major safety program for all warbird operators to join in on if they wish. The insurance issue is again false comments. The CAF does not insure in the way an individual does and repairs aircraft at it's own cost. Insurance costs for everyone isn't in these cases. Comments to the contrary are just the unknowing popping off about something they know little about. No insurance has been effected because of the CAF in the past few years except the CAF, and the CAF has a good relationship with the insurers. Things happen and always will, but wish the best for those involved and if you haven't been there, you have no right to criticize.

Thanks for the post, FG-1D.

I have had mostly positive dealings with the CAF--both local and national--and although not a member remain supportive of what the organization is doing.

I'm interested in the insurance study about which you wrote. Have those findings been made public in CAF publications or anywhere else? I'd like to get my hands on a copy.

I am not on either side of this subject, but I think a one CAF accident was left out. Didnt the P-51C crash last year killing the pilot?

Yes and is going to be rebuilt.

Boy, that was a big one to leave out and you're right. I was thinking of pilot error situations. That was a mechanical, due to engine failure.

This is a no win topic, depending on which side of the fence you ride, However the CAF flys approx. 5000 sorties each year and accidents do happen. The point of my comments were, the F4U incident isn't going to effect your rates. Just as the fender bender you have in your car doesn't effect your rates if you don't claim it.
