I am thinking of the crash of an SB2C Helldiver in which the gunner, a Native American, got out and survived on the run until the war was over.

That sounds like a pretty exciting story - do you have more info?

If it's possible to bring the fallen home and bring closure to the families, then why not retrieve the aircraft as well?

So, we need to offload the USS Cole crew and turn her into a fishing reef ASAP?

I have two: LAT and LONG coords

for B-29's in the 330th. They are both in Japanese waters. One in Tokyo Bay and one just off the coast. Would be cool to send a camera down just to see what is still around. Only one would have any possible bodies in her.

Thanks for the input.., well.., thanks for most of the input.., the remaining was rather childish.

I stand to be corrected on this, but aren't the waters in that area both relatively shallow and rather salty? I'd wager those birds are probably little more than crunchy dust at this point. Not saying it wouldn't be interesting record what's there, but I doubt there's anything recoverable at this point.

If we're gonna go looking for underwater Boeings, why not go after "Dauntless Dotty"?

Dauntless Dotty

I thought there was an effort to recover her already?

I believe the expedition was going to find the airplane, not actually recover it, since it is a gravesite. Here is an interesting link: http://www.avialantic.com/kwaj/dotty.html
Bear in mind that this is at least a five-year old link--I don't know what has happened with the program since the passing of Colonel Morgan.

yah.., sadly I think the recovery or discovery, came to a halt along with Morgan.
