Hi!

One of our 185 is having its engine rebuilt, so once that is done, the Focke-Wulf will get her annual.

We need to check the GNS 430, it may be busted and the nose wheel tyre needs a-changin'.

After that we'll be good to go with the rest : Harvard, P-3, and of course, the Beavers!!

Anything moving your part folks?

Took the engine off of the T-6 last Saturday. Waiting for Aero Engines to pick it up.

The logs say that the engine went civilian in 1956- no telling when it was overhauled! It does have a few overhaul stamps from wartime though.

Total time 4275 hours, 1312 since major overhaul, 413 since top overhaul.

It was a lot more work than I expected, and that was only teardown of the firewall forward stuff. I hope I can figure out how to get it all back together when the time comes!

Now I have to refinish all the components in preparation for getting the engine back. I think I'll chrome the engine mount, powder coat the exhaust, and make some engine isolators from orange polyurethane. Oh, and add nitrous oxide...

Well,
Just did an oil change and new header in the bug.
On the way to the hangar to put the exhaust on, I lost the cooling fan.
Luckily I had one to replace it with.

OH, Airplanes.....

Sorry, No good Stories!

Planning on starting the Annual on the Stearman this weekend. First order of business is drain the gas tank and change a leaking fuel gauge - definetely an OUTSIDE job! :crispy:

If you do not, I'm willing to buy the parts you have left over . . . for my future T-6 project! : )

Not a Warbird but... my 170 is just out of annual. Since my winter house project is complete I can now get back to flying and polishing. This will be me soon. Will be flying off to some aviation activity almost every weekend from now until OCT!

Yes, an overhaul is expensive indeed.

I think the rebuilt of the Focke-Wulf's engine was as costly as the R-985, since that darn gearbox on the GO-480 needs to be pampered alot.

But, the Wulf will soon be out!

We have the prop pulled on our N, needed some exhaust work. About to do her annual at the end of the month.

I was told on Saturday that an Allison overhaul would cost the same as my R-1340 overhaul!
