Dayton ?? I don't think so. I've been to the NMUSAF @ Dayton for the past three consecutive Decembers and there are no mountians of that elevation anywhere in Ohio. Unless, of course you are referring to Dayton, Nevada.
My bet is still Hamilton AFB, CA.

Back on track, are there any "period" photos that we could check on the hangar as well as the terrain?

If you look at the attached photo I believe that the hanger in question is the one 'standalone' in the far distance. Note the wide ramp in front where the ADC F-82's were parked. Looking at the current google.earth imagery that hanger is now gone in favor of housing. As I live about 70 miles south of Hamilton I will be soon going up there (after taxes are done) and will take a photo of the distance hills to match those in the original photograph.
