Correct me if I'm wrong but the mission of both the Air Force Museum and the Base Hertigage Program (or whatever it's called) is to preserve the the heritage, honor those who serve/served and to educate. How does taken a exteremy rare, valuable and flyable P-38 and mounting it on a pole (or pedistal) then letting rot in the weather even cover 1 of those points. Not ony is it discrace for those involved but it also it disrespectful to those it's intended to honor.
Flame suit on.... :crispy:

8 pages of everyone stating the obvious facts against one persons opinion. Shall we call this the Warbird Feelings and Emotions Exchange?

Dude, whatever. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion as long as you agree with it. I am here to talk about warbirds and learn about their history and restorations. When we have a debate, it is fine for it to get heated, but we need to be respectful towards eachother. That is something that you don't understand because on several occassions you have been down right ignorant and rude to me simply because I didn't agree with you. After things die down from a heated conversation, I think it shows true manners to try and atleast say no hard feelings. Many times we atleast learn stuff from eachother, and see some points of view other than our own.

The idea is to teach people about the history of their local heroes and what makes a base special. The types of aircraft used in the history of that base, and other lessons. At the time that the P-38 was put up there, that was still a pretty common way to honor a hero. But also don't expect any credit from you because I know how you feel about static museums. Plus I am stupid for trying to be respectful to everyone involved as you eluded to above.

That is where you are wrong, when the P-38 was put on the pole, there was a outrage then. I was active in warbirds at the time and remember it very well.
Not many people on here can say they have spent over half of thier lives working on Warbirds,

I have nothing what-so-ever against static museums. But, what I hate is taking a restored flying a/c and making it static. What a complete waste of rare airworthy components. EVG's a perfect example ME-109, P-38L restored and never to be flown. Also restoring a plane to static from the get-go and wasting airworthy components on it. When Shoo Shoo landed it should have the gutted of good components and replaced with nonairworthy ones. The same with Boeing Bee, B-307 yada yada yada.
It will suck when a flying warbird is grounded for lack of parts that are on a static.
