I am certainly going to repost it. With the logo, The Returning Legand.

I am tired of people telling me I cannot sell my own darn photos.

Hey, you got a phone call from Doug R. asking you to stop and work with them on getting permission to use the images. That's great of Doug to want to work WITH you. Doug didn't go to WIX to get an opinion. He contacted you directly. Some of the CAF aircraft are Trademarked.

Scott Slocum, Bill Crump, Brian Silcox, Phil Markana, and many others have photographed our aircraft and we have allowed them to use those photos and they allow us to use them too. It's a great "win-win" for all of us. Putting this on WIX and starting another CAF bashing thread, do you think that's the way to do business?

Those that want to bash the CAF constantly should get thier own planes and do what they want. The CAF has done a lot for warbirds on Very limited funds.

I have a lot of respect for photographers that ask permission before they take photos. It's just the right thing to do. Others feel it's thier right, just like it's thier right to burn the flag. Being that it's "Your right" doesn't make it morally right. Hey but maybe because I was raised in Texas, I was taught to respect other peoples stuff.

We all want people to take all the shots they want and enjoy the aircraft. But if you want to make money, at least do as the professionals do, ask.

I am certainly not bashing the CAF, I just think that someone telling me I cannot sell my own photos that I took, is just not right.

I am asking permission from them, but I have the right to express my concerns about the CAF to whomever I feel that I do and the WIX board is my opportunity to do so.

I respect peoples honesty about their experiecnes, good or bad about the CAF and it is certainly not my intent to bash anyone.

I do bash the entire IDEA, of someone claiming that I cannot sell my very own photos, that I spent time taking and with my equipment to anyone that I feel I should and can to.

Don't take this thread as a rampage to bash anyone. I am simply discussing my concerns to folks that I speak with on an open forum and have nothing but the highest respect for Doug, for calling me.

However, the IDEA of someone getting mad at me for trying to sell my photos in a legit matter, well to me, the gloves are off baby,.

Just do your research on whether you can use your photos of the CAF's emblazoned aircraft for your profit!

We are not an altruistic society. AKA.., right is not always RIGHT!

Get on the web, google a copyright attorney and go from there.

That way you will show up to the knife fight with a GUN!!!

There is one thing that bothers me about this thread. I have been a member of the CAF for years and have spent thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours working on our aircraft. I am very proud of what we do. But apparently just my membership in the CAF offends some people. Why do some of you tar all of us with the same brush? “ The CAF killed two of my friends!” What the heck is that all about? One guy meets a docent that seems rude and suddenly ALL CAF members are rude? Or, “I’m not joining until they get rid of the “tramp stamp””.

I have met some of the most wonderful people from all walks of life through my years of membership. I think to put all of us in the same pot is a gross mistake. A lot of people focus on trivia and miss the big picture. I guess I missed the big Earth shattering event that caused all the hostility towards the CAF. I have found the organization to be an incredibly satisfying and worthy endeavor.

And Paul please don’t let one incident keep you from “joining” something that you rightly perceive as worth while.

Dan

I would certainly not be discouraged about it.

Again, the subject is that it left me with a bad taste in my mouth, so I wanted to get others opinions about it, but it all boils down to what I want to do.

And what is you want to do? Would offering them your help for them to have a fund raising calendar be out of the question? Even in some sort of profit-sharing arrangement, using the current one?

Instead of fuelling your anger try to think how to make the best of the situation. They do seem to have been cordial on their approach, don't start burning bridges too soon.

Anyway, just my 2 cents of euro.

best regards,

I'm only guessing but I think this is referring to the B-26 Marauder crash which 2 Brits were killed along with the crew :(

I'd like to know how the CAF "Killed" 2 friends also. Either someone dies flying a plane or dies riding in one. It's a risk you take when flying in any plane or driving in any car. Unless someone is drunk.
As a former board member, I don't recall the CAF killing anyone. Although I've had the urge a time or two

Paul,

Frank Mormillo a CAF SoCal member and also a POF member is one of the top aviation photogs in the world. http://www.war-bird.com/Frank.Info.htm

I know Frank and he could probably give you some good info. Also fellow member Eric Van Gilder is on WIX and he might be able to help.

I understand your disappointment but I think you might want to talk to some pros and maybe a copyright attorney to get the answers you need.

Good Luck,

Dan

Yes, and I was friends with a former CAF player (now deceased) who's very emotional reaction upon hearing about Carolyn's accident was "They killed 'em....Those son's of bitches killed 'em!" referring to his close friends and fellow CAF pilots Vern Thorpe and Walter Wooten.

That's what it WAS. Then.

I can understand the emotion, just not sure about the blame. But let me point out that Gary Austin took some HUGE steps in identifying some of the problems that led to incidents like Carolyn, and though he may not be involved with the organization anymore, he at least put the framework in place so that it CAN be a much safter environment.

Hopefully that won't ever be an issue again.

So thank you, Gary, for the effort you made.

I am not in this to discourage anyone from the CAF or do I have anything bad to say about them.

However, I do think I have the right to sell my photo's unless of course it is copyrighted such as the CAF B-24 and such.

It is the principle of it, as a jobless disabled Gulf War Veteran, for someone to tell me I cannot make a single dollar off of my photos, to me is wrong.
