Here are two fire bombers that were operating out of the Casper airport in Wyoming in 1963.

Douglas B-18 Bolo

Are either of these aircraft in museums today?

Holy crap a B-18.., I agree.,. totally caught me off guard on that one.., what was the capacity of that little 2 engined antique?

If the date is correct, then I'm guessing both aircraft are part of the old Avery Aviation fleet, which eventually evolved into Hawkins & Powers.

At least one of the two Avery/H&P Bolos survived. 37-0029 is on display at the Castle Air Museum. I don't know if that's her in your pic.

It was a good idea, it just didn't work.

It looks so pristine! Almost as if it hadn't even been used yet. Who knew that a mere 46 years could make so much difference in the life of an airplane....

What are the odds that this Consolidated PB4Y-2 visiting the Casa Grande Municipal Airport for the 2010 Copperstate Fly-In is the same airplane that was at the Casper Airport in July 1963?



This Consolidated PB4Y-2 is now retired from slurry delivery to fires. Best wishes to the team that got her back in the air to be flown here and put on display as a treasure of our flying history.
