Cool idea for the air commando scheme. Then put "Barbie III" on her wing, now that would be a sweet looking duo!

How about something in the way of an R4D?

I'm thinking tri-color camo, maybe with a red insignia surround. I don't have any photos of one (or recall seeing any for that matter) but I think such markings would be plausible, and something to look into.

Jack you got anything?

At any rate I think it would be cool to see a blue Goony on the circuit.

Don't overlook the post war schemes. Some of those are pretty colorful and would be a welcome deviation from the OD/Gray. Check out the movie, "Islands in the Sky", the Arctic SAR schemes were cool.

"Hey bud, your d-day stripes are jus' wrong."

Saying that, it's a great scheme. A PTO scheme would make a change also. There's the CWH's Canucks Unlimited, the AWM flew a Dak in RAAF Pacific colours, there was a RAF SEAC scheme on one UK based Dak, but I can't recall any others.

Perhaps an early war scheme? Paratroopers were used in the Sicily invasion and they had to have lots of C-47s in North Africa. This is the Gooney at the Silent Wings Museum in Lubbock. I sort of like the early markings for a change of pace.

I'm still in favor of a 1st AC paint scheme, but I'm more in favor of seeing air under here wings on a consistent basis. As ya'll know there were a few hicups that will need work, but she did fly last week. Here's proof... Some pictures via Wayne and the rest of the hard-working crew.
I guess they're currently calling here Spirit of Hondo (instead of "Working Girl"?).

Well, since you asked for opinions, here's mine...

A standard transport C-47 in WW2 livery isn't much of an attraction for me. I've seen plenty, they were all very similar, and not terribly interesting.

Now, the same airframe, as a gunship, decked out in Vietnam camouflage, with a cabin full of miniguns and cannon, and the associated sighting systems, is something I'd travel a fair way to see/photograph/fly in. There is one AC-47 on the show circuit, but I haven't crossed it's path yet.

I'd pay to fly in it, especially with guys that flew the real deal in Vietnam, and hopefully do a few pylon turns like they did in wartime. Have headsets for all pax and play recordings of actual spooky missions. You could probably get 8-10 paying pax per flight, with operating expenses less than the four engine bombers. Sell special flights with an A-1E flying along side.

On the airshow circuit, have it do firing turns aimed at show center. I'd love to see that.

Sell inert .50 cal. and 7.62 cartridges at shows to raise funds.

:D

Congrats on the flight. Great restoration project.

I would like to see some cool Navy paint schemes in the airshows. Make it a R4D. Just have fun with it.

Does it need paint? The NMF looks pretty good.

Otherwise, I like the R4D or the 1st Air Commandos.

The natural metal does look really nice. How about a Berlin Airlift scheme--simple markings and different than any other flying today. Another option might be a VIP airplane. I've seen video of Gen. Eaker getting out of a NMF C-47 in the MTO. Again, simple and different.

Regardless, glad to see her airborne again even with the little hiccup.
