MOTAT Mosquito-Now with photos!

Just by fluke I was at MOTAT today for the first time in years and I arrived just as they were mounting their Mossie fuselage onto its wing, it is now standing on its own legs for the first time in decades.

So a big 'WELL DONE' to the guys in the aviation section at MOTAT.

VERY interesting ! Is this aircraft going to be made flyable at some point in the future ? I look forward to seeing the photo's.

It's highly unlikely that this Mossie will fly. MOTAT has only one airworthy aircraft, and that is because the terms of the donation required the aircraft to be kept airworthy. It is a Ryan which is maintained and operated by the NZ Warbirds Association on behalf of the museum.

Restoring the Mossie to fly, and then keeping it airworthy, is outside the general charter and financial ability of the museum.

While it would be nice to see it fly, I'd rather they spent the money on saving and restoring some of the other significant aircraft in their collection.
