Bombed up A-1 nicknamed Bad News in 1969, probably former U.S. Navy A-1H BuNo. 139609. The "6T"-tailcode was found on 6th Special Operations Squadron Skyraiders at Pleiku in October 1969. The aircraft is armed with six Mk 82 227 kg (500 lb) bombs with "daisy cutter"-fuzes and two Mk 20 "Rockeye" cluster bombs.

Don't want that guy pissed at me. 8)

I believe the historical answer is that the 6th was based at Pleiku with the tail code "ET". They set up a semi-regular detachment of airplanes at Da Nang which adopted the code "6T".

Anybody recognize the paint scheme as the one recently adopted by sabremech's AD?

That would be the airplane we painted ours to resemble. The Bad News name has lived up to its reputation for us lately. Thought about putting " Good News" on it for a while. We should have the Skyraider home in the next week or two. It's been sharing some space next to our Skyhawk since Airventure.

Correct serial number is 134609, and believe photo taken at the detachment of the 6th SOS at Phu Cat Air Base.

The cluster bombs are actually SUU-30s.

Awesome. Flying. Machine.

It makes me think of something General Lee said, to the effect that "It is well that war is so terrible, or we may grow fond of it."

Hi Ken,
Our Skyraider is down for a a while as we're having to replace the original fuel bladder. The self sealing compound has entered the fuel bladder causing us to ground the airplane. We're removing it today and sending it out to California to have a new bladder manufactured. On a side note, we'll be doing some minor paint work to correct an error during painting. We'll be correcting the BU# to 609 so it represents the original "Bad News".

I've had that as background on my computer for several months now - just a great picture of a 'working' warbird.

Anybody know what those round, black canisters sitting by each main wheel are?
