Re: Gary Austin's Photobucket Account

Couldn't someone like Jack (or from Gary's estate) be able to follow these steps (copied from the FAQ section) from the Photobucket site?

"If you cannot reset your password using the Reset Password process, you must provide us with more details about your Photobucket account. If the information you provide matches the registration information that Photobucket has on record for the account, we will update the registered email address so that you can reset the password.

Make sure you contact Photobucket support from the email address that you want to use for the account. The email address that you use to contact Photobucket support cannot already be registered to another Photobucket account.

Click the contact us button on this page, and answer as many of the following questions as you can:

1. What is your Photobucket username?
2. What email address is currently registered with the account? (If you are unsure, please list all possibilities)
3. Approximately when was the account registered (year and month)?
4. What is the first and last name registered with the account?
5. What is the account owner's date of birth?
6. What postal or zip code was registered with the account?
7. What country were you in when you registered?
8. Is the account a Free or Pro account?
9. What background color or theme was selected for this account?
10. Are there any albums in the account? If so, please provide the name of one or two of them.
11. Provide a detailed description of one or two images or videos from the account.

We do not guarantee that we can recover the album for you. If you cannot provide the details you provided when you created the account, or you used fictitious information to fill out the registration page, our ability to help you regain access to the account will be limited."

Just in case, I performed a complete backup of the pictures of the Gary's account.
Of course, I will never use this pictures, but if the account will be closed, I keep the pictures on a DVD.
Contact me if needed...

Gary's account is alive and well. We are making sure it stays that way. It is not going anywhere so there is no need for people to worry about downloading his pictures or anything else.

Edit to add: I have digital copies of all the pictures as well. If photobucket crashes or whatever the pictures will still exist. That won't help with links to his posts here but the pictures will still be around.

With the ability for people to download the pictures from photobucket I'm sure it's just a matter of time before they start appearing as others.

That's nice to know, thanks for that info Brad. Someone should STILL download all of his pictures, unless you have the original digital files from Gary's computer, because they still could be lost if Photobucket ever goes under, the server crashes, or someone hack's into Gary's account. I don't know if Photobucket has any protections in place now, but a few years ago, I lost everything I uploaded on a photo hosting site because of a hacker. Thankfully, I still had all of the original files on my computer, so it wasn't that big of a deal - just a loss of time in uploading the pictures.

Thanks Brad. As I said, I don't like to cause alarm, but I thought it worth asking before it became an issue. Glad you've got it in hand.

And, as ever, some of the other thoughts and suggestions have been worthwhile hearing too.

Regards.
