Sgt. Micklin (Red West) from Black Sheep Squadron. I got to meet the real Red West at the Gathering of Corsairs in Indy in '02 and he is a real gentleman and very friendly and approachable.

NO ONE mentioned Wild Bill Kelso??? Seriously?

The two from Always, definitely...John Goodman and Richard Dreyfuss were phenomenal..

Did'nt meet Red West at Indy, but did meet the guys who played TJ and Don French in 'Black Sheep Squadron', got a great pic of them..

Mark

I'm shocked, Vlado, shocked. They'd pull your licence for such a blind spot in Britain.

All pilots get called 'Biggles' in the (British) meeja.

Another vote for James Bigglesworth, operational fighter pilot in W.W.I and II, in between, and flying to defeat villains until the 70s.

I actually liked "Biggles: Adventures in Time". Have a copy of it on VHS taped off of TV somewhere.

As to favorite fictional pilots, Wild Bill Kelso, hands down. Also like Patrick O' Malley, wish they'd release High Road to China on DVD.

"Dutch" Holland (Jimmy Stewart's character in Strategic Air Command)

Col. Joseph Gallagher (12 O'Clock High TV series, commanded the 918th after General Savage's death)

Clutch Cargo (I watched that cartoon all the time!)

Sky King (I've been a fan of Cessna 310s ever since!)

Someone else mentioned Wilma Deering. . . yeah, baby! She was HOT!

Geez... pick the one thread I can't give you even a short list on....

Wild Bill is defintely on there
Murdock too
What about Hawke? Or even better - Santini?
Any pilot character played by Jimmy Stewart
Any pilot character played by John Wayne
Any pilot character played by Robert Stack
Any pilot/aviation/military character played by Lloyd Bridges

I think that comprises at least the top 100 between the last 4. :)

Apparently the Welsh farmer got a bit PO'd at frequent RAF jets passing by & painted the message on his barn roof... thereby ensuring that EVERY RAF pilot in the area passed directly overhead to see the sign....(& continues to do so) hence the pic :)
