The first pilot I can remember: Race Bannon on Johnny Quest, flew that delta winged Convair-looking superjet. Sounded fast too.
Now that dates me!

Absolutely. I'm glad someone mentioned Captain Towns. I was just going through this thread with him in mind. Of course I'm talking about the novel version or Jimmy Stewart, not so much the Dennis Quaid version. The novel is fascinating; painting a picture of Frank Towns' career and how he ended up hauling oil workers through the desert.
