Lost AD and F4u still in Pyongyang Museum, airliners.net

Apparently it was in the Pyongyang Museum basement. How is that prop mounted? The engine mount forward is missing!

Wow...........never seen those pics before! :shock: The condition of those birds is amazing. I wonder how long those have been in storage. Corrosion looks pretty minimal.

Also....back in the corner of the room on the far right side of that photo with the Skyraider.....does that look like it could be part of a F9F to anyone else?

Pictures of these wrecked airplanes is sobering. It really makes you wonder what happened to the pilots of those planes. Were they KIA? MIA? POW? Were they rescued? Whoever piloted those was someone's son or brother or maybe even someone's father.

Are there any other identifying markings such as Bureau Number or Squadron Number so the history of these planes can be traced?

There is an aircraft number on the side of the F4U-4, but unfortunately I haven't been able to discover any documents kept by the Navy that cross reference these numbers with the actual Bureau Numbers. You'd think the BIG number on the side of the plane would be included somewhere in the squadron's or the pilot's records, but in all the records I've seen, this hasn't been the case. Pilot's logs and the like include only the little Bureau Number that was written on the tail.
