hello Jack,

I went searching old threads on Bills F6F, its a shame it was so badly damaged in the crash, but fantastic that he has retained it and collected other parts to support a future restoration, so many of the wrecks that occured in those years were simply considered write-offs and scrapped.

With all due respect Jack, how will this collection be protected in the future? Shame to see Scrappy the Scrap Dealer get his tongs on it.

Smiles, I think you will find that one a little under powered for you as it looks like an original Cirrus mark I of 60HP (based on the heads), rather than the mark II of 90HP that the Avian's used.

Can anyone give some background to the forward section of the F6F and why it is cut? is this a warbird wreck that was acquired after a crash? or is this damage from military service?

A great collection and well done to Bill for collecting and preserving it.

Ah, yes, but a Cirrus I in hand could used for a trade for the engine I need my friend. I know of a least two Cirrus II's gathering dust in museums in Oz - wouldn't it be good to see one "alive" again?

Back on topic... I hope I will still be playing with aeroplanes like Bill, at his age!

Actually I think we have two operational Cirrus mark II's in Australia already in the Westland Widgeons, (your recent parts acquisition were left overs from one of the rebuilds.

I'm not sure there are any Cirrus mark I's operational anywhere in the world? the oldest surviving DH60 Cirrus Moth (8th built) G-EBLV at Shuttleworth is flying with a Cirrus mark III.

How much are you budgeting to purchase a good Cirrus mark II? as I have had my eye on one for a few years but the price is >@$10k AUD if the owner will part with it at all?

Years ago I was offered one in very poor condition from South America for @$15k.
