I remember Tallichet having an old Stearman in his hangar back in the mid - late 80's. Blue fuselage with possibly yellow wings. I remember him and his wife flying into a fly-in at Santa Ynez, CA in about 1993 with it. I always thought it was his first plane followed shortly thereafter by a Mustang.

Hey Rob, about what year did he buy the Mustang? I've always been curious when he began actively accumulating warbirds.

OK Rob - You got me on that one. Keeping on the Tallichet theme.

Question 2: How many of the P-39's and P-40's that Tallichet and Charles Darby recovered from Papua New Guinea are now flyable? Name specific aircraft.

TFC and Yanks P-39s depending on how you define flyable.

The Stearman (with a P&W 985) spent a couple of months in my hangar alsong with his L-5 in the early '90s. The Stearman had just been recovered, although the finish was like 80 grit sandpaper. Must have been a freebie!

Correct. I was looking for the TFC P-39. Add others when they actually fly in my opinion.

Hey Rob,

As for your original question, Mr. T related to me that the first aircraft he ever owned was a T-34, but it ended up not "military enough" (sorry Mentor guys) for him so he sold it and bought the Mustang.
