just for the info, the km markers of the "path of freedom" ("La voie de la liberté") don't start in Paris but in Ste Mère Eglise, in Normandy.

Thanks for the correction. We saw so many places and things they all kinda' run together and with my memory....

Merci,

Mudge the informed

Great shots! I visited the area in 1988 but it was in wintertime so many things were closed then. Yes, we tracked down the La Gleize King Tiger. Back then, the driver’s hatch only had one rod welded across the opening, so I was able to squeeze down inside and look around. It’s a rusted hulk inside. Did you notice the back ends of the projectiles they test fired into the hull that are still sticking in the armor? The “scoops” in the glacis plate were from bazooka rounds fired into the hull after the fighting was over. The tank was abandoned in front of the town hall but moved to that spot in the 50s. They were smart enough to retain it, unlike most towns who couldn’t get rid of destroyed/abandoned vehicles fast enough and probably regret it now due to tourist concerns as attractions.

It's a shame that tiger isn't under cover, such a rare piece

Thank you for sharing Mudge. Looks like a great trip. Seeing some of those names on the Easy Company Memorial made me think of just how rough that battle was. After watching Band of brothers for the first time I was haunted by how Hoobler got killed. Very sad.
