Finally had good weather to get the Spit airborne.

T-0 off at only +6 Boost.

Maintain gear speed of 140 knots.

Heading out west.

Break on return as opposed to broken on return.

Clear of the active.

Post flight discussion.

Rich has really outdone himself. This thing is awesome and just plain cool. In addition to the engine tuning Rich has been doing we put a slip indicator in front of my face so I can remember which foot to push. It is more helpful than you'd imagine or I'd want to admit.

Now it's off to Atlantic City next week for that show.

Hey Jim or Rich,
After looking at photo's of Bald Eagle at TOM, I was curious will the markings be put back on the upper and lower side of the flaps ? It looks beautiful either way but if it's staying unpainted I need to make some changes on the 1/32 scale model on my shelf... They must match you know... Lol...

Took a look under the hood and 20 hrs later the engine was still noticeably warmer than the warm air in the hangar.
What a big chunk of mass it is.

Nope the flaps are off now getting painted and I guess we'll redo the wingwalk too. We had to use them that way to make the Indy show. We're not using her for a while so now's the time to finish the last bits of work.

Merlin Magic has a piece of string tied to the top cowling former for the same thing but for being low, fast and turning left...

Jim and Rich, I really enjoyed your articles in the newest Warbird Digest.

Scored a couple of 1sts for the Spit. Jim took it Monday on it's longest cross country yet. He made it to Atlantic City, NJ for Thunder Over the Boardwalk. Weather was horrible yesterday so today was his 1st over water show performed with the Spit.

Flying formation with a seagull. Has a British ring to it.

A moment with a slightly clearer sky.




Everybody did a flat show but at least there was some flying.
Now hopefully Jim can find the breadcrumbs and find his way back to the barn.

The Collings crew is at our home airport for a few days and I hope to see them and go for a ride with Jimmy in the B17 tomorrow.

Here's a shot after Betty Jane was put to bed. Man is that a sweet airplane. Even Rich is baffled trying to keep it on the ground.
