On the Gee Bee.... I posted info on the Vintage Aircraft forum... it came from a private airstrip not far from me. It is a replica.

Dave... here is part of what I posted on the Vintage Aviation section within WIX.

This airframe, which is a replica, is more along the lines of the R-1/R-2 that was built from the two wrecks of the first R models. Fuselage is longer... wings are longer and are the Staggerwing airfoil. It was built from scratch over a 20+ year period. So just not as faithfull to the originals as Delmar's R model and the Eicher/Kimball Z model that are in Kermit's collection.

Hope to post the pictures I took of it a couple years ago maybe tonight or tomorrow.

Spoke to the Dive Leader:

On one Corsair we found a tail sub assembly number. I'll find the pic for you.
As for the SBD's, they were mixed randomly with a few other
planes. There didn't seem to be any particular order to it.


Will post the sub assembly number when I get it.

It was pretty exciting for us to see the Boeing 40 article. I'm part of the 'sons' in Pemberton & Sons Aviation who is doing the Boeing 40 project. When the airplane is flying it will not only be the only Boeing 40 flying in the world but also the oldest Boeing flying in the world. Although we've still got a lot of work left we are closer than we have ever been!

reen cowl ..are you referring to the Raftis Corsair ? Rob Mears will know more, but I believe the markings are authentic to a Stateside Training Group...Rob ??

I remember first seeing this particular scheme back during the early 1980's on the cover of this Profile Publications pamphlet. I always thought someone should use it on their plane since it's such a colorful departure from the standard 'blue' paint seen on just about every Corsair out there. You either love it or hate it. The green & white nose on the VMFT-20 Corsairs is not as ominous looking as the standard dark blue and black on most others, but you have to admit it's a big time standout on the rare occasion when you have half a dozen Corsairs lined up for a viewing.

As stated below, VMFT-20 was a Marine Corps training squadron based at MCAS Cherry Point, Virginia during the Korean War Years.

Thanks for the info, I think it is a refreshing change to the 'usual' schemes and by all accounts the new owner will leave it as is.
