Hi. I'm a newbie here, and I have a question that I think y'all can help with:
What is the difference between an AT-6/Texan/SNJ/Harvard? I know that the US Air Force referred to them as AT-6 or T-6's, aka Texans, the Navy called them SNJ's, and the Canadians called them Harvards. But other than that, what makes a plane an SNJ and not a T-6? Is it just based on which branch originally purchased the airframe?

During the war North American built 9,330 AT-6C, AT-6D, SNJ-4, SNJ-5, Harvard 2 and Harvard 3, all on the same production line. They came in altenating batches. So basiclly they are the same. The AT-6F/SNJ-6 type were only for the USA. Some of the earlier types went to other counties during the war. 24 nations used these airplanes at that time.

So basically the names are all pretty much interchangeable, unless of course you have some specific info regarding manufacturing and who/what purchased it then, right?
