Warbird Information Exchange

Yesterday a EC-130 landed at Goodyear and spent the night. This was one of the EC-130s that took part in the attempted Iranian hostage rescue.

Great catch. That is an ancient C-130, I didn't realize there were any that old that weren't in AMARC, given to some foreign country, or cut up by now. Serial number 62-1857 is a standard C-130E transport, currently shown as assigned to the 1st SOW.

62-1857 is not standard C-130. She was an EC-130E ABCCC aircraft for most of her career. She was slated for HC conversion but this has never happened, and while not acting in that role she is still an EC-130E.

A good candidate for enshrinement at the NMUSAF when its flying days are done!

Darn right, made even more awesome that they marked the plane as such so the casual observer would know just by looking at it. I wouldn’t have thought they would mark it like this. It seems to me that the USAF in recent years has been paying a lot of attention to their history, more so than in the past. I’m very glad to see this happening.
