Thanks, Airnutz, i had missed that whole topic, I had missread it as an F84, an older jet so I didn['t take a look.
My guess is that this is just a taxi accident, not that uncommon in the larger scheme of things. One thing I try to always do in tailwheel planes is keep the stick back and tail firmly on the ground for taxi, unless you have a following wind.
If there was a second airplane , like an airliner as the cause, it would probably be in the FAA report.
I doubt if this is a movie, but who knows. I'll bet $20 Anjelina Joli was not there and has nothing to do with this; unless the pilot was looking at her and got distracted!
Like most of you , I am glad no one seems to be hurt.
A prop strike can throw debris to the side and hit someone.
As for prop curl, it seems if the plane is moving slowly under power, the blade may curl forward; if it is moving forward like a belly landing, the blade is likely to fold under.

It seems to be human nature not to want to talk about bad news,as one who has been there. If it is only bent metal, you can get by.
If it is public view at a major airport, a story made up after the fact may not fly too well.

Oh just to add clarity to my statement, this is no way being critical of Jacks illustrating the absurdity of the situation by making jokes about the situation. It is more about the folks directly involved turning the incident into an episode of Punked.

Gentlemen, we are ALL on the same page. That's exactly what my biggest beef was and what I was trying to communicate! I have a hard time understanding what people's motivations are to give bad information, especially given that an aircraft was heavily damaged and people's lives were potentially at stake. To toy with someone's emotions like that is pretty child-like, IMO.

Bill, you can infer exactly what happened between that thread and this one. Some of your assumptions about what happened are wrong.

BTW, when you had your incident, you did exactly what I would expect a professional warbird pilot to do. You came on this forum, let us know that you were all right, gave a brief assessment of the damage to your Spit and kept your mouth shut regarding the incident. Once you said that, everyone at this forum respected your right to privacy. We didn't hound you with questions on the incident, because everyone knew that anything you said could potentially be used for legal matters. Everyone was totally fine with that. In due time, we found out what happened. The way you treated your incident here at WIX is exactly the way it should have been done. Your right to privacy was respected, and you gave just enough info on your condition and your Spit's condition to quell any rumors. That was handled "splendidly", as the British would say, by you!

I count 4 people here in this post continuing to question people. You are the minority here and a very small one to me.
No one with any official ties to Mr. Lewis or his organization has ever made a post or given anyone permission to voice any official remarks. No one that has said I'm an official spokesperson.
You continue to beat a dead horse and give this fine meeting place of warbird enthusiasts a bad name to many of the owners and operators of these aircraft.
Even the official FAA reports will never have the pilots name listed. If you don't get every bit of info you desire what difference does it make. It isn't like ordering a Happy Meal at McDonalds here. Hey I want to know why he did that and why that guy said that and I can't understand why a prop blade will bend forward.
I'm sorry but there is a some "need to know" restrictions in this business. You may not like it but it is there.
In this case someone who knew the crew posted a comedic response to a friends incident. This is a very minor incident thank God. Others have added to that posting without even thinking about it and I'm sure the original poster of said comedy has been laughing for days. I don't think any of this was planned but just a kneejerk reaction because some of you felt like your toes got stepped on. Someone who seems close to the crews involved then did post. That post is the attitude of many of those who operate these aircraft. Instead of listening to what he had to say you trash him and insult him.
Some of us have offered advice to cool it and this thing has just gotten ugly and yet it still doesn't stop.
Just so you all know, I have never met Mr. Lewis, I have worked with one of his staff based on the Chino Airboss remarks. But I haven't spoke to him in months and I figure if he wants me to know something about this he will call me.
I am satisfied that it was very minor and no one was hurt. Also I know that the FAA publishes accident reports Mon thru Fri and if it was an incident it would show up on Monday like it did.
And No, this aircraft is not heavily damaged.
Seriously guys, wait for something official and understand you may never get the response you want.

Rich, you've totally misinterpreted what I am saying and my intentions. What you have said is not AT ALL what I believe. It's obvious we won't see eye to eye on this issue, so I will just let this go before this thread goes downhill as well. BTW, I've gotten all the information I need. I need nothing else. I don't care about the details of what happened, why it happened or the pilot's name, etc.

One quick comment though on this statement: "And No, this aircraft is not heavily damaged." Would not an engine overhaul and new prop blades be considered "heavily damaged" in light of how expensive that will be to replace?

Just to be clear, I'm sorry you feel the way you do. It is not my intention to upset you or anyone else here. I was just trying to separate truth from fiction, that's all.

I think 51 fixer has hit the nail on the head on the last nail of the coffin.

An incident happened, someone posted a picture from the highway, someone close to the airplane posted pictures on FaceBook and things went wild from there.

Unfortunantly, someone seemingly close to the airplane also had to make up a story that was obviously not true and rilled everyone up.

Everyone attacked.......story got stranger......more attacks..........FAA Report came out..........point made.

Done!

Maybe its time everyone just lays off now and leaves this thread alone and let the dead horse lie.

Think of power and pitch. The backside of the tips leading edge is actually striking the ground first and where can it go? Depending on the length of the ride, you can curl the tip forward and then bend the blade back. Mileage may differ with variables.

Check whats behind you when you run-up an engine?

If your sitting in an unrestrained tail dragger, with the engine running, keep the stick back?

Or make up a story and, lie, get the subject looked out? :?:
