This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

this is probably the biggest step i've taken since i re-married 13 years ago. my family business which is 50 years old as of may is in a very dangerous position of folding up. the economy, demographics, independent retail businesses just can't compete. also, my brothers are all in their 60's, sister is 57, i'm 49, my sister is married to an orthodontist so no problems their. we are all equal owners in the company which my dad started. we are top heavy with family management. i've got 25 years their. somebody has to go & i'm in the position that it's me. i am seeking a fresh start. i'd love to get a salaried job with an aviation museum. i don't have very good tool / mechanical skills, but as a 25 year buyer / collector author of aviation history i feel i can fill a position in a positive manner in the areas of research, aquisitions / curator, fund raising / public relations. my management skills speaks for itself. if anybody can help me find some prospects, or have them contact me it would be most appreciated. moving is not an issue, although i have a house to sell. thanks, tom

Tom, Best of luck in your quest. Hard decisions can yield the best result I've found.

Not sure if your skillsets fit the requirements, but I saw recently that the Evergreen Aviation Museum is hiring a chief curator. Might be worth a shot. The College Park Aviation Museum is also hiring a part-time archivist.

Hey Tom,
I'm of no help to you, but I wish you the best of luck with your endeavours to find a "dream job" as many of us would probably put it.
I've enjoyed your contributions to WIX and really hope you find something good!
Peace,
David M

Tom - Sorry to hear that the stores are being bit by the economy. The only thing I can think of to do is to contact the large museums such as Air Force Museum Or Naval Museum and see if they have connections to other museums that may be looking for help..... Sounds like a move is in the offing if you can find something.
Not much goes on around here in aviation field as you know.....

Tom,
Check these web sites for museum job ads.
American Association of Museums

http://www.le.ac.uk/ms/jobs/job_titles_jobid.htmNot only can you see what is out there but you can also find out what educational and experience requirements there are for the kinds of jobs you are considering. I didn't actually look to see if there are any aviation museum jobs listed right now.

Tom,
First of all I'd like to wish you the best of luck, I always like hearing your input on different subjects. Secondly, if you have to make a career change, it's great that you're trying to do something that you love and have a passion for. I know the pay your looking for is more than what the VFM pays, which is ZERO, (we're ALL volunteers) but if you find yourself down here in Texas stop buy and say hello, we could use a guy like you around here.
I don't know if this is up your alley but this is the only thing close to what you're looking for that I know of. It's my dream job, but I'm unable to move to Washington state right now.
https://jobs.vulcan.com/ It's a Restoration Project Mgr for the Flying Heritage Collection, Paul Allen's museum.
Best of Luck,
