and here in Oz:

Western Australia's national treasure Claude Choules - Australia's oldest man and the world's last surviving World War I veteran - has celebrated his 110th birthday.

Mr Choules was born in England on March 3, 1901, and served in Britain's Royal Navy in Word War I and the Royal Australian Navy in World War II. :drink3:

Interesting opinion on Mr. Buckles....... Worth reading.

http://www.wvgazette.com/Opinion/201103010859

When I met him and it was 20 years ago or so, he was an interesting guy. I knew he was in WWI and wondered how many others could be left. I never knew he would be the last one in the US.....

Think about how he really beat the odds. When he was born in 1901, the expected lifespan for a man was only 48 years.... He doubled that and then some......

The state of WV and Missouri (thanks guys) have ordered flags to half staff in his honor. President Obama ordered all flags to half staff on the day of his funeral. He will be burried at Arlington. There was a resolution to have a state funeral for him with him lying in state in the capitol rotunda, but that was blocked by one Senator (I saw the article and can't find it now)....
