I hate news like this. Prayers go out to all the family and friends and also to the crew at Pacific Fighters. From my own personal experience, the questions about what may have happened can be overwhelming.

Didn't Danny Summers also have the ultra stock TBM that was restored at Pacific Fighters a few years back?

Yes he did. The one that sold at one of the Santa Monica Auctions in 90 or 91. I'm just finding out about this crash now. I remember this airplane well when Richard Bertea used to fly it at airshows and at Chino all the time. It came up from Chad in 89 with another Skyraider. Always thought Danny was a cool guy and I'm very sad to hear of the loss of him and his friend. This one definitely hurts bad.

John Lane at Airpower Unlimited restored the TBM.

In June of 2009, Danny gave my son Mike & I a 55 minute ride in his other AD, the fat face. He wasn't in the business of selling rides to the public, but accomodated us out of courtesy. He let me fly it for about 20 minutes, took us within maybe 600 ft. of the Grand Teton and on the way back to Rexburg, asked me if we'd like to have him roll it. Sure. Then he asked if I'd like to do it again, & when I said yes, had me go ahead and try it. He was enthusiastic & really knocked himself out for a couple of strangers and since he wouldn't accept any money or even let my pay for gas, I made a donation to the air museum where he displays the TBM. R.I.P. Danny, you certainly did right by us.

Darn that is a great story. I never met him, (I used to see him at Reno) but as always my gut feeling he was cool was right.

Danny Summers Obit
found it here http://rexburgstandardjournal.com/obituaries/

Danny Summers |
Danny Joe Summers, 55, of Rexburg, died March 8, 2011. He was born July 20, 1955.
From a very early age, it was easy to see that Danny had a great love for the outdoors. If you wanted to spend time with Danny, you needed a shovel, gun or fishing pole. Maybe on some days, you'd need all three.
Danny knew the value of working hard, but also found time to play hard. He spent much of his life raising potatoes, raising his family and raising up everyone around him.
He excelled in everything he ever pursued. Whether it was hunting, farming, athletics or academics, he really was second to none.
Danny never missed an opportunity to share with others his greatest accomplishments. Sam, Bert, and Ashlee were his pride and joys. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and friend. He left this world a better place than when he found it and has forever changed the lives of those who knew and loved him most. We love you, we will miss you, and may God be with you till we meet again.
He is survived by his mother, Bonnie Summers, his sister Jana (Mike) Phillips, his children Sam Summers, Bert Summers and Ashlee Ricks and spouses, and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bert Summers, and brothers Harvey and Billy Summers.
A memorial will be held in the honor of Danny Summers and Jodi Wyatt from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, March 17, at Danny's airplane hanger at the Rexburg Airport.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the Rexburg LDS North Stake Center. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
Condolences may be sent online to http://www.flammfh.com . Published in Rexburg Standard Journal on March 15, 2011 Follow this Obituary
