Well, we've been busting our, er... hump but we are just about ready. We expect to run the engines on the Yellow Rose tomorrow (Friday the 18th). I have a couple of the items on the inspection list to complete, but a flight Saturday is not out of the question. We are taking it slowly and carefully, which has been difficult because we are all so anxious to get her back into the air. But, we're determined to do it right. I'll get an update out tomorrow sometime evening.

Thanks!

The Yellow Rose Runs Again!!!

We fired up the Rose today! Sure was sweet. I had hoped to run her Friday and fly her today, but discovered early Friday that none of our pilots were current. We have a check pilot coming next week to fix that. Anyway, we took it slow on Friday and ended the day ready to pre-oil and run. We had to pre-oil both engines since they had been sitting for so long. The new engine fired right up. Sure made me proud of our volunteer workers! I need to do a retract test for the B inspection and we'll cowl her up in preparation of a return to flight Wednesday.

We started the right engine first. It seems some oil had found it's way into the cylinders over 5 months and it was a very smoky start, worse than usual... However, it burned off quickly and was running fine.

With Calvin Allen at the controls, the new left engine was started. A little smoke, but less than expected. She started right up and ran smoothly.

After a minute or so, the smoke faded away. All pressures looked great and it was a very successful first run.

We're really looking forward to doing a lot of flying soon.

Thanks!!

Congrats, Ray! And the extra oil smoke guarantees a bug-free ramp.

Glad to see she's almost airborne.

Nice work! Sitting on the gear or in the air, I think a glass nosed B-25 is one of the best looking planes around.

WOOHOO! They Yellow Rose returned to the air this afternoon!!!

After much checking and rechecking, we decided that it was time and went for our maintenance flight. It was a beautiful, cloudless, 95 degree day and the Rose fired right up as smoothly as we could have hoped. I was the flight mech on this flight so I had a friend shoot a few pictures for me. All pressures and temperatures were right where we wanted them. When she warmed up properly, we headed for the sky...

Image

There was a little traffic in the area, but when our turn came, off we went!

Image

The pictures don't do our beautiful plane justice...

Image

We came back wishing we could have kept flying, but the fuel gauges said NO!

We will be flying more tomorrow and next week as we build some time breaking in that new engine. We plan to go to the Burnett Air Show on Saturday, April 9, since its relatively local to us. I had another friend with a great camera shooting pics and he'll be taking more Saturday. I'll get a disc on Monday and will post more photos.

Thanks and blue skies to you all!
