Mikey, the F-15E was NOT brought down by Rebel AA!

I'll post the picture again so there isn't any confusion. This is a Mig that was brought down by Rebel AA.

Mike Furline, it did not happen! The photo you keep posting is NOT the F-15E.

There were two F-15E's lost in the Gulf War in 1991. One to AAA and the other to an outdated SA-2E SAM. Both at night and from what I remember, both at high altitude as well. But this current F-15E was reported to have experienced a mechanical malfunction. Like a catastrophic engine failure.

I have not been able to find that anywhere. Wonder if she came from Italy or was she on a Amphibious Support Ship in the Gulf with the fleet?

I don't see any evidence of a AAA hit.

I see evidence of a catastrophic engine failure...but none of the other frag and blast damage that would have come with a direct hit from a 57mm or higher AAA round (which is what it would have taken up where they were flying in the mid 20s).

Is there something else you're seeing in the photo that leads you to believe that it's a AAA hit?

The 'hole' this guy is referring to is huge compared to the caliber of AAA the rebels have been throwing up from the back of their Isuzu's. It looks to be about 36" diameter. I would like to see if the USS Missouri is being used as an AAA battery.

330th... you said the rebels couldn't hit anything with AAA. Mike replied with the link that stated that they brought down their own MiG 23 with said AAA. We all know that the F-15E was a mechanical issue as show by the wreckage and of course own on local eagle driver's input. I'm not sure where this all went off track.

Back on track, very glad that the crew was recovered safely. Also glad that the Osprey got some good press by being on scene to recover the pilot. Lets hope that this is the only time during this "crisis" that we have to talk about a downed aircraft.

Yes it is. The photo shows local aviation restoration experts searching for a Data Plate. Once it is confirmed, the aircraft will stay in place at the crash location for 35 to 60 years, when another team of experts will find it and do tons of paperwork to get it back to Chino...er...The USA for its restoration...that gives everyone barely enough time to decide what color it will be painted when completed.
