Tom Wood F-86 Sabre video

Sat Mar 26, 2011 5:03 pm

To distract everyone on WIX from passionately hating each other, I have finally chosen to release a video I made a month ago...

Long time warbird pilot Steve Hinton pilots the late Tom Wood's F-86 from Indianapolis International to Indianapolis Metro. The Sabre had not flown in five years until that morning, Steve took it out for a test flight before flying to Metro, and skillfully landing on the short but doable 3800 foot runway. The airplane had extensive work done to make airworthy to join the rest of Mr. Wood's airplanes at Metro.

This is my first ever video & editing, and I used a GoPro HD Hero camera for the filming. Let me know what you think!

Nice video Trey! Good music selection. Nice Sabre too. Always a pleasure to watch Steve behind the controls of a warbird.

Thanks, Trey. Nice video but I keep getting irritatiing pauses when I run it - it may just be a problem on my end.

Could you please give us the DATE that this flight too place? And also, is this Sabre going to showing up at any air shows this year or next?

Cool! It was a little glitchy till the whole thing downloaded, then it ran pretty smoothly.

Last fall I was landing at Indy International, looking out the window I caught a glance of an F-86 on the ramp. I leaned over my wife (always has to have the window seat yet sleeps the whole time) as we were rolling down the runway and tried to get a good look at it but we were moving too fast. When I saw the shot of it landing at Metro in the latest Warbird Digest I instantly recognized it as the one I saw on the ramp last fall. Makes perfect sense now!

Thanks for the video and I hope there's more where it came from!

Jim, if you was able to see to the end the date is in a title on the screen, Feb.19 2011.
Also if you click on the HD the HD will turn off and the video should play better. Try that.
Good video :D Whats the future for these A/C :?: Will they be ground bound or remain flying :?: Thanks.

Thanks Steve, turning off the HD worked and I saw the date at the end. Good video and Steve Hinton did a terrific job with the F-86 as usual. Looking forward to hearing what the continued flying status (if any) of this Sabre will be. And also looking forward to seeing Steve Hinton put warbirds thru the paces at Chino in mid-May.

Thanks for the compliments guys! I had a blast getting to be around Steve, what a cool guy. I can't say enough about how lucky it was to get to learn a bit about the Sabre from him! It was a lucky day in regards to weather, February in Indiana usually isn't as pretty!

Steve did one hell of a job landing on such a short runway. He was definitely current, as he had been practicing the Sabre Horsemen routine for the 3 previous days down in God's Country (Texas).

Trey letting the video load for a bit, then it won't show choppy for me. It's been filmed in 1080P (High-Def), that must be why it's choppy and tough to load?

It's hard to say what exactly will happen to the airplane. It is NOT changing hands, but it is VERY expensive as you know to fly, so that being said, I don't know when it will fly next. It's "one of those things", who knows!

The rest of the collection will do some flying however :)
